Dental Health Week 2021: Keep Your Smile for Life | Captivate Dental

by | Aug 1, 2021 | Dental Health Week 2021

Dental Health Week is on 2-8 August 2021.

The 2021 Dental Health Week campaign focuses on the importance of caring for your teeth and gums to help you to keep your smile for life.

The ADA’s main oral health messages and the four key messages of the 2021 Dental Health Week campaign aim to reinforce the importance of maintaining good oral health to keep your teeth for life:

1. Brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes each time

It’s important to choose the right tool to clean your mouth, but it doesn’t end there.

You also need to pay attention to the time you spend brushing and your technique. Make sure all corners and surfaces are covered.

And always be gentle to avoid damaging your gums and the outermost layer of the teeth.

2. Clean between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes

Flossing removes plaque stuck in between teeth and out from underneath the gumline, where a toothbrush can’t reach. Daily flossing helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

When ignored, plaque and tartar build-up underneath the surface of the gumlines. This can cause gum disease, which leads to bone destruction and tooth loss.

3. Maintain a healthy, balanced diet and limit added sugar consumption

Your choice of food affects your oral health. Our mouths receive nutrients from our daily diet.

It’s crucial to eat healthy. Sweet snacks are fine from time to time, but be sure to rinse them down with water to remove any residue until you can brush. Don’t forget natural teeth cleaners such as carrots and apples. They’re perfect, portable snacks!

4. Visit your Cheltenham dentist for check-ups and preventive dental care

When was the last time you visited your dentist? The more regular your check-ups, the less time you’ll need to spend in the chair.

The more committed you are to your dental appointments, the more you will avoid complex dental treatments in the future.

Keep Your Smile for Life!

It can take some time before you start noticing changes from whitening or improved oral hygiene.

While these changes are not achieved overnight, they are certainly worth all the time and effort for the sake of your smile and your overall wellbeing.
